SMITHFIELD -- Leonard Ralph Barnes, 76, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
A graveside service will be held Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.
Mr. Barnes was born in Wayne County March 2, 1934, to the late Oscar and Dollie Sykes Barnes.
He is survived by five stepdaughters, Martha Robinson of Smithfield, Kathlene Mooring and husband, Lewis, of Fremont, Gail Pate and husband, Kenneth, of Lucama, Allene Mooring of Goldsboro and Lois Gardner and husband, Billy, of Chadbourne, S.C.; a brother, Ollie Ray Barnes and wife, Shirley, of Goldsboro; a sister, Catherine Bradshaw of Goldsboro; and numerous stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Baker Barnes; a stepdaughter, Bessie Mae Stanley; two brothers, Lassiter Barnes and Jack Barnes; and two sisters, Effie Barnes and Ruth Hollister.
The family will receive friends this evening (Thursday) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, 102 N. Pine St. in Fremont.
