PEARL WOLFE
Died June 11, 2010
Pearl Wolfe died Friday at her home at the age of 90.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Harry officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday night at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at her home.
Born in Southampton County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas M. Simms and Pearl Babb Simms and was the wife of the late Dr. Harold E. Wolfe.
A graduate of the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing in Richmond, she and Dr. Wolfe came to Goldsboro in 1946 when he began his dermatology practice with Dr. H.B. Ivey. Since coming to Goldsboro, she has been active in many community and church activities. As a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, she served in many capacities, including Sunday school teacher and superintendent, Vacation Bible School coordinator, administrative board, finance committee member, the altar guild, and as an UMYF counselor. She also directed over 100 weddings as a hobby.
Mrs. Wolfe was a dedicated member of the Wayne County Medical Auxiliary for which she held several offices. She was also active in the North Carolina Medical Auxiliary for many years. Also important to her was her volunteer work with the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels and her years as a Cub Scout den mother. For the last 16 years, she has been an honorary member of the Apex High School Football Moms committee and was an avid Apex Cougar football fan.
Over the years she worked in various capacities as a nurse, receptionist and bookkeeper with her husband who founded Wayne Dermatology. But most important of all, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother and friend. Always concerned about her family, friends, and church family, Pearl will be remembered by many for the phone calls, cards, and other "little remembrances" that she did.
She is survived by her son, Bob, of Apex; a brother, Grant Simms and wife, Mary Ellen, of Boykins, Va.; a sister, Imo Beaton and husband, Marshall, of Suffolk, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Howard Newell, Dr. Jim Atkins, and the staff of the seventh floor at Wayne Memorial Hospital for all their help over the last five years. Also, special thanks to caregivers Rhonda Smith, Beate Wooten, Soundra Brown, Linda Jernigan, Teresa Clayton, Glenda McCord, Ruby Woodson, Gayle Gwaltney, Kathy Fishel, Kathy Pennington, Fannie Holmes, Dorothy Cogdill, Barbara Eatmon, Leora, Bizzell, and Dorothy Stroud who have given such great care over the last five years.
