Albert Edward Stroud, 79, went to be with his Lord Tuesday at home.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dann Patrick and the Rev. Rex Evans officiating. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.
Al was born in Lenoir County Oct. 31, 1930, to the late Raeford Stroud and Daisy Bell Stroud.
He served his country for more than 25 years in the United States Air Force and retired as a major.
The loves in Al's life were God, family and friends.
Al was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church.
He was a lifetime member and past master of Goldsboro Masonic Lodge #634 A.F. & A.M. He served as the lecturer and performed many Masonic funerals for the lodge.
For those who knew him, Al will be remembered as a generous, caring and compassionate man and a loyal friend to so many. He will also be remembered as one who always served others.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. and following the service in the fellowship hall at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, and other times at his home.
Al is survived by his wife, Jean Odom Stroud; his daughters, Belinda Alligood and husband, Marvin, of Washington and Jeanette Sutton and husband, Mac, of Winston-Salem; his son, Steve Stroud and wife, Gail, of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Jason Alligood, Jonathan Alligood, Angela Sutton Shotwell and husband, Blake, Stephanie Stroud and David Stroud; his great-grandchildren, Kate Shotwell and Anneliese Shotwell; and his brothers, Jerry Stroud of Cape Carteret and Kenneth "Shorty" Stroud of Reno, Nev.
