BUTCH WILLOUGHBY
Oct. 26, 1947-March 29, 2010
Mirt W. "Butch" Willoughby Jr., 62, went to be with his Lord and savior Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
A service to remember Butch will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Burial will be in Pine Forest United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Butch was born in Wayne County Oct. 26, 1947, to Margaret Waters Willoughby of Rosewood community and the late Mirt Wilson Willoughby Sr.
He graduated from Goldsboro High School, where he excelled in football and basketball.
Butch continued his passion of sports by coaching Rosewood little league teams. He also had a love for motorcycles.
Butch was employed for 16 years with Southern Industrial Constructors in Raleigh, but learned the electrical trade from his father. He later received his electrical contractor's license.
Butch was an enthusiastic supporter of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Goldsboro. He always enjoyed helping the church during its outreach ministry, Judgement House, but he got great pleasure in taking the Tuesday morning prayer group out for lunch as he had done just last week.
Butch had a loving compassionate heart for helping those in need.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother, David Willoughby; his sister, Peggy Martin and husband, Brantley; his niece, Evie Barrera; and his great-nephew, Austin Barrera.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1100 The First Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or a charity of your choice or perform an act of kindness with Butch in mind.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the family home in Rosewood.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
