Robert Lewis Adams, 91, son of the late Herbert Lewis and Myrtle Helen Adams of Roxborough, Pa., passed away Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
A service to remember Bob will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with pastor Bill Garner and Mark Lister officiating.
Bob's great passion in life was classical music. He studied at Westchester Teacher College in Philadelphia, learned to play French horn and years later performed with the Northland Symphony in Kansas City, Mo., of which he also served a term as president.
Other passions of Bob's included aviation and radio, as well as locomotives and trains, especially steam engines. He briefly worked for a manufacturer of radios and eventually went to work with the Navy, where he worked as a civil service naval electronics inspector.
He also received his private pilot's license, went on to get his commercial and instructor rating and worked as a flight instructor for several years.
While working for an aircraft installation and repair company, he flew his airplane to Goldsboro for a job assignment. There he met Peggy Grant, who was working for the airport manager. They married in 1951 and moved to Kansas City, Mo., where they raised five children.
Bob worked as an electrical engineer for TWA for 36 years. Bob and Peggy returned to Goldsboro after he retired in 1986.
Bob leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Peggy Ann Grant Adams; daughters, Stephanie Adams and life partner, Scott Stewart, of Lakewood, Colo., Barbara and husband, Jeffrey Morrill, of Walker, Minn., Deborah and husband, Mark Lister, of Zionsville, Ind., and Shelley and husband, Jay James, of Liberty, Mo.; son, Robert Mark Adams and life partner, Carmen Hedlund, of Walker, Minn.; and his four granddaughters, Hannah and Chloe Lister of Zionsville, Ind., Kathryn James of Liberty, Mo., and Madeline Adams of Tucson, Ariz.
The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center and also special thanks to caregivers Lavern Swerbenski, Linda Cassells, Tammy Trail, Johnice Spencer, Donna Rivera, Dorothy Cogdell and Mary Ward.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.
