MOUNT OLIVE -- Tonya Renee Hill Matthews, 35, 447 Kermit Warren Road, passed away Sunday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel, with pastor Leland Heath officiating. Burial followed in Wayne Memorial Park.
Born in Cumberland County, she was the daughter of Richard and Louise Crews Hill of Mount Olive.
Tonya was a member of the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church and was a volunteer with the M&M Relay For Life Team. She was employed with Southern Bank&Trust.
In addition to her parents, Tonya is survived by daughter, Haley Renee Matthews of the home; her paternal grandmother, Hilda Hill of Mount Olive; one brother, Ricky Hill of Mount Olive; one sister, Katrina Jenkins of Sedley, Va.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Christi and D.J. Stevens and Wendy Fields.
Family members greeted friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of her grandmother, Hilda Hill, 485 Kermit Warren Road in Mount Olive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Haley Matthews Scholarship Fund, c/o Mount Olive Rotary Club, P.O. Box 1, Mount Olive, NC, 28365, or P.O. Box 729, Mount Olive, N.C.
