WILBUR E. SUTTON

MOUNT OLIVE -- Wilbur Ellis Sutton, 85, of 361 White Oak Bridge Road, died Saturday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Services to celebrate Mr. Wilbur's life will be at 7 p.m. on Monday at Thunder Swamp Church with the Revs. Frederick Dixon and Rev. Jimmy Whitfield officiating. Burial will be on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.
A veteran of the U. S. Army having served during World War II during which he was stationed in Germany, his enlistment also included his involvement with the honor guard and of being a military policeman. He retired in November of 2008 after a life long farming career, part of which he also operated Wilbur Sutton Farm Supply. He was a long time member of the Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Mr. Sutton is survived by his wife, Emma Lee Sutton, of the home; four daughters, LaRose Daniels of Goldsboro, Debbie Daniels and her husband, Joe, of Clayton, Becky Zerr and her husband, Mick, of Wilmington, and Rhonda Sutton of Dudley; three grandsons, James, Chris, and Ellis Daniels; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, E. H. Sutton of Albertson, Tommy Sutton of Mount Olive, and Harold Thigpen of Kinston; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest G. Sutton and Mamie Harrell Sutton; his step-mother, Maybelle Sutton; two sisters, Athelene Thigpen and Elizabeth Mitchell; four brothers, Claxton Sutton, Carlton Sutton, Earl Sutton, and Kirby Sutton; and his mother-in-law, Mamie "Granny" Fields, with whom him and his wife shared their home for many, many years.
The family will receive friends at the church on Monday during the hour prior to the service, and at other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are requested to be made to Thunder Swamp P. H. Church, c/o Liz King, 3516 Suttontown Road, Faison, N.C. 28341.
