MOUNT OLIVE -- Bertha Mae Gainus Thompson Wheeler, 67, a resident of Woodridge Circle, died Thursday at Mount Olive Care Center.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Douglas Bartlett officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of Barbara Kornegay, 144 East Pine Forest Road, Mount Olive, today from 5 to 9 p.m.

Born in Sampson County, Mrs. Wheeler was the daughter of the late Roland and Pearl B. Gainus. She was the widow of Billy Gray Thompson and James Earl Wheeler and had been employed in several sewing factories.

Survivors include a son, Bobby Gray Thompson and wife, Pam, of Morehead City; two daughters, Barbara Kornegay of Mount Olive and her special friend, Phil Combs, also of Mount Olive, and Betty Faye Davenport and husband, Jack, of Mount Olive; a brother, Roland Gainus Jr. of Beulaville; two sisters, Peggy Gainus and Ernestine Owen of Clinton; grandchildren, Josh Davenport of Mount Olive, Jordan Davenport of Greenville, Tonya Ginevan and husband, Tech. Sgt. Greg Ginevan, serving with the United States Air Force in Turkey, and Bobby Jr. Thompson of Morehead City; and two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Garrett Ginevan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family would be appreciated to defray funeral expenses.

Tyndall Service of Mount Olive is handling the arrangements.
