SPICER CARR

John Spicer Carr, 86, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, followed by a service at 2 p.m. with bishop Steve Briggs presiding. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
Spicer was born in Nash County on June 5, 1922, to the late John Spicer Carr and Hattie May Cogdell Carr. He was married for 64 years to the late Virginia Stith Carr. Spicer retired from civil service, having worked with the Naval Base in Dahlgren, Va., and with Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro. He had also taught school at Eastern Wayne High School in the New Hope Community. Spicer was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served his country in the United Sates Army during World War II.
Spicer is survived by his daughters, Toni C. Gwaltney and husband, Doug, of Dudley, and Susie Carr Spell of Pittsboro; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Lewis and wife, Kelly, Laura Spell and Jason Turner, and Anna Small and husband, Shelby; and his great-grandchildren, Jacob Lewis, Matthew Lewis and Louis Small. He is also survived by his sisters, Viola Clinard and her husband, Dempsey, of Greensboro, and Jewel Casey of Kinston; his brother-in-law, Ralph Ingram of Raleigh; and his sisters-in-law, Lois S. Carr of Goldsboro, Evelyn J. Stith of Goldsboro and Susan S. Stith of Glen Allen, Va.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Livius Marion "Pete" Carr, Edward Glenn Carr and William Ray Carr Sr.; and his sister, Louise Carr Ingram.
Arrangements are being handled by Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
