Deacon Harry Lee Britt Sr., 84, lovingly known by his family and friends as "Har," formerly of 3675 Highway 13 North, Goldsboro, N.C., died on Wednesday at the Veterans Hospital, Fayetteville, N.C. Deacon Britt was born to the late Hardy and Nina Coor Britt.
He attended and graduated from Central High School. After graduating from high school, he served his country by enlisting into the U.S. Army. Upon completing his tour of duty, he received an Honorable Discharge. He furthered his education in the field of electronics and became a certified radio and television repairman. Months later, Harry opened his own business and named it "Britt's Radio and T.V. Shop."
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mazzie Dickerson Britt; two sons, Harry Lee Britt Jr. and Melvin Britt; two brothers, James and Sam Britt; two sisters, Dollie and Geneva Britt.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at 1 p.m. from the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 4460 Highway 13 North, Goldsboro, N.C. Pastor Larry Johnson will officiate. A viewing will be held, Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. A wake will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, from 6 to 7 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral service on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at Forte Cemetery, Eureka, N.C.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters, Delores Britt of Wilson, N.C., Nina Britt-Thomas and husband, Roosevelt, of Raleigh, N.C. and Zannie Christine Britt of Greenville, N.C.; two sons, Jimmy Britt and wife, Aletha, of LaGrange, N.C. and Billy Britt and wife, Margaret, of Wilson, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Velma Britt of Raleigh, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; Gertude Britt-Hudson and Cora Lee Harper, both of Goldsboro, N.C.; special cousin, Elnora Britt-Grantham of Goldsboro, N.C., several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will assemble at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at Hamilton Funeral Chapel in preparation for the funeral possession.
