AGNES A. BATTEN

July 15, 1919-Sept. 30, 2007

Agnes Aycock Batten, 88, died Sunday at The Sterling House of Goldsboro. Born in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lala Edwards Aycock and was married to the late J. H. "Buck" Batten. A member of First Baptist Church and the Frances Greene Sunday school class, she and her husband owned and operated the Westover Grocery in the Rosewood Community for more than 30 years.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church ,with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Ceme-tery.

Mrs. Batten is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Mac Allen of Goldsboro, Golda and Tommy Steele of Siler City, Janice and Willie Horne of Manteo, Evelyn and Jimmy Martin of South Hill, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Pat Batten of Kernersville and Dudley; a brother, Thomas Aycock of Selma; sisters, Blanche House of Selma, Pearl Wells of Smithfield, Edith Pittman of Kenly, Marjorie Daughtry of Princeton, Mary Ellis of Pine Level and Harlene Sasser of Pinkney; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Family members will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Joy and Mac Allen, 1909 O'Berry Center Road.
