RALEIGH -- J.D. Lewis Jr. died peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro. He was the son of the late John Davis Lewis and the late Luella Cox Lewis and the husband of the late Louise Wilson Lewis. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24th at 12:00 Noon at First Baptist Church, 101 South Wilmington Street in Raleigh. Internment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
His survivors include his son, J.D. Lewis III and wife, Alyne, of Stuart, Fla.; daughters, Evelyn A. Lewis of Davis, Calif., Yvonne Lewis Holley of Raleigh, Pat Lewis Waddell and husband, Fred, of Goldsboro; son, Leonard Lee Lewis and wife, Tayloria, of Raleigh; nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 23rd from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church. The remains will lie in state at First Baptist Church from 12 Noon to 7 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Garner Road Family YMCA, 2235 Garner Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27610.
