GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Rachel Sangster Martin, 88, died Monday in Greenville where she was a resident.
Born and reared in Mount Olive, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Bertha Reaves Martin and sister of the late Robert R. Martin.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher. She was a longtime librarian at Furman University and was a dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross, the Free Medical Clinic of Greenville, Meals on Wheels and the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services will be today at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Graveside burial service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Martin-Price Cemetery near Mount Olive, with Dr. Dennis Atwood officiating.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Lorelle F. Martin of Mount Olive; a niece, Dr. Virginia Martin of Mount Olive; a nephew, Robert R. Martin Jr. and his wife, Merle, of Pelham, Ga.; and a dear friend, Dr. Ruth Reid of Greenville, S.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Greenville Free Medical Clinic, 610 Arlington St., Greenville, S.C. 29607, or the Martin Endowment, Mount Olive College, 634 Henderson St., Mount Olive, 28365.
