PRINCETON - Martitia Holt Gurley, 87, died Monday at home. She was born in Princeton to the late Cornelia Sanders and Edgar A. Holt Sr. and was preceded in death by a brother, Etheldred H. Holt. She was the wife of Carl R. Gurley Sr. for 67 years prior to his death in July, 2002. Martitia was a lifelong member of the Princeton United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Princeton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Coppock and the Rev. Dick Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Princeton Cemetery.
Surviving are her four children, Peggy Thompson of Raleigh, Imogene G. Capps and Carl R. Gurley Jr., both of Princeton, and Connie G. Oliver of Pine Level; two sisters, Julia H. Kornegay of Louisburg and Sue Massengill of Princeton; brother, Edgar A. Holt Jr. .of Princeton; 13 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parrish Funeral Home.
