DOVER - James Franklin Smith, 64, 4588 Wyse Fork Road, died Wednesday.
Mr. Smith was the owner and operator of the Lighthouse Family Restaurant in Mount Olive for over 8 years. He was employed with IFH for 16 years and worked for Brothers Foods for 18 years. He was a loving husband for 44 years, loving father and a loving grand-father. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. One of his favorite past times was bowling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Wilson Smith and Sallie Dudley Smith and a special aunt Nancy "Anky" Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Garvey Smith of the home; two sons, James "Frank" Smith Jr. and wife, Deanna, of Deep Run, Jeffery Darrell Smith and wife, Melissa, of Dover; three sisters, Shirley Smith Hinson and husband, Bill, of Kinston, Mary Smith Dysinger and husband, Wayne, of Dover, Shelby Smith Reece and husband, Edward, of Kinston; two brothers, Noah Nicholas Smith and wife, Pat, of Warren, AK, Woodrow Wilson Smith Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Kinston; three grandchildren, Briana Smith of Deep Run, Makenna Smith of Dover and Evan Smith of Dover. He is also survived by several special nieces, nephews and host of many more friends.
Funeral services will be at Howard-Carter Funeral Home in Kinston on Sunday, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Gerald Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be today at the home, and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home.
