HOOKERTON-Dennis Garland Herring, 59, of 3217 Hugo Road, died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Dennis retired in 1977 as Tree Trimming Foreman for the City of Greenville Utilities Department.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. Burial will be in in Fairview Cemetery.
Dennis is survived by five children, Shari Denise Herring, of Kinston, Stuart Blake Herring, of Hookerton, Courtney Jayne Herring, of Hookerton, David Bradley Herring, of Hookerton, and Dustin Kane Herring, of Grifton; three sisters, Deborah Whitler, of Kinston, Mary Ann Wagner, of Wallace and Shirley Kennedy, of Kinston; two brothers, Steve Dawson, of Trenton, and J.R. Holloman, of New Bern; special family friend, Ethel West of Grifton. Dennis was preceded in death by his grandmother who raised him, Florence Herring; a sister, Bettie Jeanne Bryant; and a brother, Jake W. Dawson.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 until 6 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of Shari Herring, 808 Tyree Road, Kinston.
Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, LaGrange.
