MOUNT OLIVE -- Emma Sutton Outlaw, 93, 1374 Tram Road, died Saturday. She was a life-long resident of the Scott's Store community, with the exception of the last few years spent at the Mount Olive Retirement Village, now Glen-Care.
Funeral services will be today at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Harrison officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the funeral home and other times at the home of Karen O. Arnette, 1370 Tram Road. Committal and interment will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the Outlaw Family Cemetery on Jeff Outlaw Road.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Amanda Winders Sutton; her husband, Leslie Outlaw; a daughter, Linda Outlaw Best; a son, Larry Outlaw; nine brothers and sisters; a half-brother; and a half-sister. A longtime member of the Long Ridge Free Will Baptist Church where she had been a member of the church choir, she was the oldest living member at the time of her death. A retired farmer and homemaker, she was widely known for her special baking abilities, especially her ole-timey applejacks.
Her surviving family includes two daughters, Peggy Outlaw Barwick and Karen Outlaw Arnette, both of Mount Olive; a son and daughter-in-law, Lester Outlaw and wife, Denise, of Mount Olive; another daughter-in-law, Patricia Creel of Cape Carteret; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
