KINSTON -- Laurie West Speight,79, 1533 Institute Road, died Tuesday, at his home. Mr. Speight was born in Lenoir County to the late Blaney Seth and Bertha Rouse Speight. He was a graduate of Wheat Swamp High School, served with the United States Marine Corps and was a lifelong farmer.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hull Road Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Speight is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma Barrow Speight; two daughters, Teresa Speight of the home and Pamela Koutavas and husband, Jerry, of Kinston; and a niece, Marie Rozoto of Zellwood, FL. He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Pridgen and a brother, Rudolph Speight.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930B Wellness Drive, Greenville, 27834.
