SARAH E. THOMAS

CONWAY, S.C. -- Sarah Ellen Thomas, 93, wife of the late Rev. Clarence Thomas, died Sunday.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Indian Hills Church of God in Lawrence, Kan. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.
She was born in Aldrich, Mo., and considered Lawrence to be her hometown.
Mrs. Thomas' husband was a longtime minister of the Church of God, headquartered in Anderson, Ind. He pastored churches in Houston, Texas; Denver, Colo.; Drexel, N.C.; St. Paul Mark, Minn.; Ames, Iowa; and founded the church in Lawrence in 1931.
In addition to being an asset to her husband's ministry, Mrs. Thomas held positions at Kansas University, in the auditing department and the Ames, Iowa, city clerk's office.
She was a gifted teacher, having had training from Emporia State Teacher's College.
Mrs. Thomas held positions as president of the State of Texas Christian Education, a position within the Church of God.
Although she never sought attention, many sought her counsel.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1975.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane Pierce and husband, David, of Conway; a son, David Thomas and wife, Pat, of Goldsboro; eight grandchildren, Jill Pierce, of Greensboro, Tammy Hertel and husband, Charles, of Damascus, Md., Mark Pierce and wife, Julie, of Germany, Paul Thomas, of Alaska, John Thomas, of Wilmington, Greg Thomas and wife, Dawn, of Greenville, David Thomas Jr., of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Sherrie Lee and husband, Keith, of Raleigh; and great-grandchildren, Jake and Josh Smith, Mindy and Jarrett Pierce, Candice and Lee Hertel, Scott and David Thomas III, Jordan, Hannah and Brooke Lee and Cori and Laci Thomas.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
