JOHN D. NEWSOME

John D. Newsome, 95, died Tuesday evening at Britthaven Nursing Home.
The funeral will be held tonight at 7 at Seymour Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Mike Grady and the Rev. Reynolds Smith officiating. Interment will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
A native of Wayne County, Mr. Newsome was the son of the late John W. and Polly Ann Newsome. A member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, he served as deacon and trustee for many years. In 1995, he was named honorary trustee at Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. He was retired from W.P. Rose Supply Co.
Mr. Newsome is survived by a son, John William Newsome and wife, Libby, of Goldsboro; a daughter, Novella Zambelli and husband, Johnny, of Goldsboro; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by special daughters-in-law, Jean Newsome of Wilmington and Margaret Newsome of Goldsboro.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Newsome was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Laulas Smith Newsome; two sons, Billy Ray Newsome and Eddis L. Newsome; two grandchildren, John Keith Newsome and Billy Ray Newsome Jr.; his brother, Don Newsome; and his sisters, Josie Grady, Lucy Anderson, Sally Wiggins, Alice Sutton Cunningham, Lala Fields, Mattie Wiggins, Belle Sutton and Laurah Howell.
Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 4009 Central Heights Road, Goldsboro, 27534.
The family will receive friends today following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence of John William Newsome, 103 Fairfield Dr., in the Lane Tree Village subdivision.
