ADRIAN L. HUSSEY

Adrian Leroy Hussey, 83, of 7994 Highway 55 West, died Friday at his home.
He was born in Lenoir County to the late Thurman and Bernice Byrd Hussey, and served 22 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a senior chief petty officer.
He served during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War and also was in Hiroshima and witnessed the dropping of the atomic bomb.
He received the Bronze Star, Merit Award, Five Good Conduct Awards and several letters of commendation. He later served 10 years in the Fleet Reserve and also worked as a naval recruiter. Following completion of his military service, he owned and operated Hussey's Barbecue.
A service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Phillip Garrett officiating.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Donna Young Hussey; seven children, John Edward Hussey and his wife, Laura, of Kinston, Robert Hussey and his wife, Dawn, of Charleston, S.C., Bruce Hussey and his wife of St. Louis, Mo., Ryan John Hussey of Raleigh, Brian Thomas Hussey and his wife, Johni, of Kinston, Benjamin Scott Hussey and his wife, Angie, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Marie Hussey Bennett and her husband, Jesse, of Seven Springs; daughter-in-law, Gail B. Hussey of Dudley; special caregivers, Lana Hinson, Sammy Ford, Kendall Hemby and Elsie Cauley; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Harold Leroy Hussey; and a brother, Harold Scott Hussey.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the Seven Springs Area Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 105, Seven Springs, N.C. 28578.
