THELMA V. RICH
Thelma Virgina Byrd Rich, 83, of 227 Charlie Braswell Rd. died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was born in Sampson County to the late Percy and Laura Lane Byrd and was married to the late Louis Millard Rich. She worked as the secretary of Kemp Furniture and retired after 19 years of service. A member of Whitley Church, she served as secretary for 24+ years and was a teacher of the Senior Adult Sunday School class. Mrs. Rich served as a spiritual mentor to many individuals over the years.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Isom; and two brothers, Percy Milford Byrd and Eugene Wayne Byrd.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral home with the Rev. Ferrell Hardison officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mrs. Rich is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Botta of Absecon, N.J.; one brother, Lacy Sanford Byrd of Danville, Va.; one sister, Grace Rich of Elizabeth City; eight grandchildren, Lora Smith, Lisa Learned, Jeff Isom, Todd Isom, Louise Isom, Melvin Williams Jr., Michele Foster and Kevin Botta; 12 great grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends following the graveside service at Wayne Memorial Park and at other times in the home.
