Vira Smith White, 80, 400 S. Best St., died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Phillip Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.

She was born in Cove City Sept. 21, 1925, to the late Shade Smith and Alice Hawkins Smith. She was married to the late William O. "Bill" White Sr.

She was involved in her community as a member of the Goldsboro Woman's Club, Wayne Memorial Hospital auxiliary and the Goldsboro Arts Council. She was a member of the Tarheel Exxon Annuitant Club and the Pocahontas Tribe Number 7 Club in Edenton and was a Friend of the North Carolina Symphony.

Mrs. White also served as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the Salvation Army and the Pines of Goldsboro.

She is survived by her son, William O. White Jr., and wife, Shannon, of Clifton, Va., and three grandchildren, Katherine R. White, Elizabeth T. White and David A. White.

Memorials may be made to any of the organizations where Mrs. White volunteered.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seymour Funeral Home.
