KENANSVILLE -- Florence Brinson Brown, 83, died Monday at her home.
A service celebrating her life will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Kenansville Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Thompson, Angie Partin and Gene Lakey officiating. Interment will be at Devotional Gardens on N.C. 24 East.
She was born Sept. 9, 1922, to the late Amos "Doc" Brinson and Cora Bostic Brinson.
She was a lifelong member of Kenansville Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and on various committees. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 63 years and served as worthy matron for four years as well as holding various other offices. She served with the United States Postal Service for 36 years and retired as postmaster in Kenansville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Thurman S. Brown; three sisters, Annie Mae B. Blanton, Mavis B. Thigpen and Irene B. Miller; and six brothers, Clifton Brinson, Woodrow Brinson, Maurice Brinson, Amos Brinson, Lester Brinson and Davis "Jack" Brinson.
She is survived by two daughters, Alice L. Brown and her fiancé, Leonard R. Cherry, and Brenda F. Brown and her husband, Roger "Perks" Tharpe of Kenansville; a granddaughter, Michelle Quinn and her husband, Kim Quinn of Kenansville; a great-grandson, Holden Quinn of Kenansville; and a brother, Willard Brinson of Kenansville.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Kenansville Baptist Church. At other times, they will be at the home at 204 Routledge Road, Kenansville.
