LAGRANGE -- Carlton Wayne "C.W." Brittain Jr., 89, of 5548 Bear Creek Road, died Monday, August 14, 2006 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held this evening at 7 in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Greg Stancil officiating. Interment will be on Thursday morning at 10 at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Brittain was born in Craven County to the late Carlton Wayne Brittain Sr. and Catherine White Brittain. He was a retired farmer, a member of White Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church and a member of Woodmen Of The World. His hobbies were fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Valderya Fornes Brittain; one son, J.C. Brittain, and his wife, Frances, of LaGrange; three daughters, Judy Hart and her husband, Duffy, of Kinston, Paulette Wade and her husband, Sonny, of LaGrange and Peggy Brittain of Fremont; seven grandchildren, Dr. Ray Brittain of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Donna Brittain of Winterville, Carla Batchelor of Kinston, Duffy Hart Jr. of Kinston, William Wade Jr. of LaGrange, Kathy Brinn of Belhaven and Lee Ann Mercer of LaGrange; and five great-grandchildren, Christopher Brittain, Andrew Brittain, Aleah Brinn, Elyse Brinn and Jessica Batchelor; and two sisters, Margaret Stewart of Harrisburg, Pa., and Virginia Coppings of Richmond, Va.
The family will receive friends at Rouse Funeral Home following the service this evening, and other times at the residence.
