DORIS V. YELVERTON
May 10, 1927-July 11, 2006
Doris Vail Yelverton, 79, of 403 N. Goldsboro St., Pikeville, died Tuesday, July 11, at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, N.C.
Mrs. Yelverton was born in Wayne County on May 10, 1927, daughter of the late Sally Musgrave and Luther Herbert Vail. She attended Duke School of Nursing in Durham and was a third grade teacher at Nahunta School. Mrs.Yelverton was the first lady licensed funeral director in Wayne County and served her community at Yelverton Funeral Home in Fremont.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, at Pikeville Cemetery, with the Rev. Bryan Huffman officiating.
Mrs. Yelverton is survived by her daughters, Beth Yelverton Childre of Pikeville, N.C., Elmyra Gayle Yelverton and husband John "Gee" White of Boulder Creek, Calif., and one son, Ralph Eric Yelverton and wife Janet of Boulder Creek, Calif.
She was preceded in death by one son, Ray Yelverton; sisters, Margaret Vail Campbell, Dr. Evelyn Vail Coonrad, and Helene Vail Rawson; and brother, Luther Herbert Vail, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph United, Methodist Church Memorial Garden Fund, P.O. Box 43, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and caregivers of the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro for the loving care they provided to their mother.
