JOHN GALLAGHER

GASTONIA -- John Alfred Gallagher, 81, died Thursday at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
John was born to the late James A. and Mary Francis Palmateer Gallagher and a native of Washington, D.C.
He was retired from U.S. Department of Labor, where he was an auditor for many years. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He attended St. Stephen Catholic High School and Ben Franklin University in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by a daughter, Maureen G. Stoudt, and her husband, Jeff, of Gastonia; a son, James A. Gallagher and his wife, Chris, of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren Nicole E. Stoudt and J. Kyle Stoudt of Gastonia; and a sister, Mary Poitras of Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sally Parks Gallagher.
Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gastonia.
Burial will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. with graveside services at Wayne Memorial Park with visitation at 1 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. Mr. Gallagher will receive military honors with Dr. Glenn Phillips presiding.
