HARRY M. TURNER

Retired Chief Master Sgt. Harry M. Turner, 79, died Saturday at his home.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Adamsville Baptist Church. The Reverends Thayer Stampler, Ray Brown, Bill Bradley, Ray Smeltzer, and Tim Owens will officiate. A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Turner was the son of the late Leon and Elsie Mae Herman Turner. He was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church, where he served as head deacon and an usher.
Mr. Turner served in the Navy, the Army Air Corps and the Air Force during a career that spanned 31 years. He saw action in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, with five tours of duty in Vietnam. He received over 30 medals and commendations including the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Bronze and Silver stars with Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired as a chief master sergeant while stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and then worked for a number of years at AP Parts.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jordan Turner; three sons, Chris Rarick, Donnie Rarick, and Harryson Rarick-Turner, all of Goldsboro; six daughters, Jordan Rarick-Turner of Goldsboro, Carolyn Turner Mauizzo of Clayton, Susan Turner Volin of Goldsboro, Catherine R. Walker of Moyack, N.C., Charlene R. Ward of Wake Forest and Dyna P. Jones of Texas; one sister, Virginia Kight of Tampa, Florida; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service on Thursday evening, at other times at the residence.
