RUBY S. UZZELL
June 22, 1918-May 11, 2006
Ruby Smith Uzzell, 87, of 4835 US Highway 70 East, died Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with Pastor Alan Lamm officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Mrs. Uzzell was born in Wayne County to the late Will and Mary Jane Hines Smith. She was wife of the late Bennie Uzzell and together they owned and operated Uzzell's Grocery for many years. She was a lifelong member of Casey's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Herring; two granddaughters, Melane Jayne Herring and Angelia Herring Jones; two grandsons, Gerald Keith Herring Jr. and Timothy Uzzell Herring; six great-grandchildren, Rebekah Paige Boyette, Courtney Lynn Herring, Scott Everitt Boyette Jr., Donald Keith Jones, Janey Rivers Jones and Abby Leigh Jones, all of Goldsboro.
Mrs. Uzzell was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Keith Herring; two sisters, Alice Beckner and Julia Howard; and two brothers, Paul Hines and Gordon Smith.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 until 3 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Peggy Herring, 4831 U.S. Highway 70 East, Goldsboro.
