Lloyd J. "Sonny" Cox Sr. 69, of 1080 Old Grantham Road, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Love Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Richard Toler officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
The men of The Faithful Sunday School Class at Love Memorial Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Cox was born in Wayne County and was the son of the late Leslie James Cox Sr. and Annie Noble Cox. He was a superintendent with Daniels and Daniels Construction in Goldsboro. Mr. Cox was a member and deacon at Love Memorial Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and was an assistant Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Murphy Cox; five sons, Lloyd Cox Jr. of Goldsboro, Greg Cox and wife, Tina, of Goldsboro; Jimmy Cox and wife, Dawn, of the Jordan's Chapel Community; Jamie Summerlin and wife, Nicole, of Goldsboro; and Jonathan Summerlin and wife, Kimberly, of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, Matthew Cox, Melissa Cox, Monica Cox, Skyler Summerlin, Hunter Summerlin, and Jacob Summerlin; and one sister, Ida Cox Starling, and her husband, Maury, of Rose Hill.
Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie James Cox Jr. and Carl Cox.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
