VERNON D. STALLINGS
July 2, 1925-April 5, 2006
WALSTONBURG -- Mr. Vernon Durwood Stallings went to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, April 5, 2006, at Wilson Medical Center.
A native of Johnston County, he was born July 2, 1925, the son of the late, James Rossi and Lala Snipes Stallings. Following graduation from the Snow Hill High School, Mr. Stallings entered the U.S. Navy where he served for more than three years during WWII. In 1968 he and his beloved wife Hazel, made their family home in the Walstonburg Community. He was a retired tobacco farmer and had also retired with Made-Rite Bakery in Goldsboro where he worked for more than twenty years. Mr. Stallings was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in LaGrange. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill. Reverend Jim Williams and Reverend McGee Creech will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the Mewborn Family Cemetery.
Mr. Stallings is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hazel Creech Stallings of the home; sons, William Durwood Stallings and wife, Cherye, of Coats, Ronald James Stallings and wife, Janice, Charles Franklin Stallings and wife, Diane, and Robert Vernon Stallings and wife, Trudy, all of Walstonburg; a sister, LaRhue S. Lancaster of Vanceboro; a brother, Nathan Stallings and wife, Joyce, of Pikeville; and 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and other times at the residence, 7636 US 264 Alt. East, Walstonburg.
