KINSTON -- Sylvia Avery Barwick, 61, of 1001 Massey Drive, died Tuesday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.
She owned and operated Barwick Place for over 42 years and was a member of Northwest Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Council and Edna Roberson, and her brothers, Frank and Kirby Avery.
She is survived by her husband, John D. Barwick Jr.; one daughter, Dee Barwick Lahocki, and her husband, Richard, of Greenville; one son: John Guy Barwick, and his wife, Laura, of Kinston; one granddaughter, Nicole Lahocki, and one grandson, John Riley Barwick; one sister, Dora Willey of Chocowinity; two sisters-in-law, Velvet Avery, and Wanda Taylor and her husband, Bruce; her mother-in-law, Margaret Barwick and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Edwards Funeral Home. The Rev. Norman Davis Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
