Helen Sugg Whitley, 81, of 2104 O'Berry Center Road, died Saturday morning at the home of her brother.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Norris and her brother, Rev. Charles Sugg officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with military honors

Mrs. Whitley was born on September 22, 1924, in Wayne County, to the late Morgan Sugg and Lizzie Watkins Sugg and was the widow of Herman Whitley. She retired from General Electric with 38 years of service and from R.G. Barry Company with 11 years of service. She served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of Spring Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to Rev. Suggs, Mrs. Whitley is survived by one daughter, Carolyn McLamb, and her husband, Terry, of Goldsboro; one son, Larry Whitley of the home; her grandsons, Chris Whitley, Terry McLamb, Anthony Whitley, Kevin Whitley and Curtis Whitley; her great-grandchildren, Zachary Oliver, Holden Grant Whitley and Saylor Renee Whitley; and four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Rowell of Raleigh, Sallie Molina of Winston-Salem, Marion Minshew of Eureka and Catherine Dawson of Eureka.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, M.F. "Buck" Sugg Jr., Alferd Miller Sugg, George Edward Sugg, Frederick Lee Sugg, and James Sugg Sr.; and her sisters, Gertrude Thompson, Peggy Pope and Dorothy Vance Daniels.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Charles and Brenda Sugg, 700 W. Hooks River Road, Goldsboro.
