EARL R. LEWIS SR.

Earl Rodgers Lewis Sr., 64, of 201 Waters Circle, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Lewis was born in Princess Anne County, Virginia, on May 25, 1941, to the late Paul Nelson Lewis and Ruby Odell Pugh Lewis. He retired as merchandising manager for Belk in Goldsboro with 22 years of service and had also retired as a teacher with Wayne County Public Schools. Mr. Lewis was currently serving as vice president of Lewis Insurance Group in Goldsboro and served as chairman of the Advisory Council of Chrysler-Dodge and Jeep of Goldsboro from 2000 until 2006. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Goldsboro, was regional director of Ad-Agency Online and was chairman of Wayne County Community Affairs. Mr. Lewis was also vice president of the Wayne County Retired School Personnel and was president of the North Carolina Central University Alumni Chapter. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Mr. Lewis was a member of First African Baptist Church, where he has served as trustee and treasurer, and was serving as president of the Laymen's League.
He is survived by his wife, Bettye Boone Lewis; his daughter, Kim L. Howard, and husband, Hal, of Goldsboro; his son, Earl Rodgers Lewis, Jr. and wife, Tia, of Goldsboro; his brothers, Thomas Lewis of Ahoskie and George Lewis of Roanoke Rapids; his sister, Janet L. Chavis of Conway, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First African Baptist Church with Pastor Louis Leigh Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Seymour Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
