DELTONA, Fla. -- Essie King Payne, 94, of 1255 Wellington Drive, died Sunday at Debary Manor.
Born in Sampson County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mattie Sutton King and the widow of Ernest Payne. She was a former dietician with Los Angels County Hospital and was a Garden Club member.
The funeral was held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. David Jackson officiating.
She is survived by a son, Crouse Odom of Kinston, NC; a brother, T.O. King of Durham, N.C.; a sister, Della K. Joyner of Mount Olive; and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home during the hour prior to the funeral.
