MILTON, N.Y.-- It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Minnie Long Howell, of 67-06 C 186 Lane, Fresh Meadows, N.Y., formerly of Milton. She died Tuesday in the North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, N.Y.

She was born Aug. 31, 1941, to the Rev. William M. Long and Rachel Garland Long. She was a native of Milton, and was a member of High Rock Baptist Church in Blanch. She was married to Bobby Gene Howell, who preceded her in death.

She attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte and later graduated from Hunter & York College in New York. She was a great entrepreneur in New York, owning several successful businesses.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. James Archie Long and Leon Long; one sister, Dorothy Long Harris.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Howell of Raleigh; one son, Byron Howell (Jennifer) of Laurelton, N.Y.; three sisters, Dr. Claire Long Little (Clarence) of Uniondale, N.Y., Laura Long Mitchell (Curtis) of Winston-Salem, and Amelia Long Foster (Winford) of Yanceyville; four brothers, William Long of Washington, D.C., Douglas Long of Reidsville, Earl Long of Uniondale, N.Y., and Robert Long of Greensboro; two grandchildren, Jasmine and Byron II; one aunt, Mae Frances Long of Blanch; one uncle, Samuel Long (Mageline) of Oxford; five sisters-in-law, Eliza Long of Yanceyville, Dr. Betty Howell Gray, and Ina G. Howell, both of Seattle, Wash., Mary L. Hickman of Washington, D.C., and Ernestine Chavis (James) of Laurelton, N.Y.; one brother-in-law, Joseph Harris of Milton.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. today at St. James AME Zion Church, George St. Interment will follow in the Barnes & Locklair Family Cemetery, Goldsboro. A family visitation was held Saturday evening from 7 until 8, at High Rock Baptist Church, Blanch. At other times, the family will be at the residence of her brother-in-law and sister, Winford & Amelia Long Foster, 17 James Foster Road, Yanceyville.

All arrangements are entrusted to Fulton Funeral Home, 219 Dillard School Drive, Yanceyville.
