MILLARD T. BAILEY
Died Dec. 23, 2005
Millard Thomas Bailey, 86, died Friday at his home in Rocky Mount, where he had been in hospice care for nearly two years.
The son of Nathan Thomas "Tom" Bailey and Eva White Bailey, he was a native of Wilson County. The family lived in Goldsboro for a number of years and Mr. Bailey graduated from a local high school. He was an Eagle Scout and, later, an assistant Scout Master. He received a degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1940 and sold insurance before joining his father's business, Tom Bailey Motors Inc., a Mack Trucks Distributorship in Rocky Mount. He served as executive director of the business until he sold it in 2003, when his health began to fail. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount, where he taught Sunday school for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wyatt Wilkinson Bailey; one son, Millard Thomas "Tom" Bailey Jr.; one daughter, Shannon Bailey-Bloodworth; one sister, Pat B. Johnson; one brother, J. Reese Bailey; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount. Burial will be in Pine View Cemetery.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army to assist victims of recent natural disasters.
