Sarah Williams Cox, 84, died November 29 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center after a lengthy illness while living in Raleigh and in recent months at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
She was born in the Cox home place "Cassedale" on Wayne Memorial Drive on May 29, 1921, the daughter of the late Robert Edwin and Eliza Herring Cox. She was an honor graduate of Goldsboro High School and Greensboro College. Mrs. Cox was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Raleigh and was a former choir member. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jean Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the Cox-Thompson family cemetery located off Wayne Memorial Drive on West New Hope Road.
She is survived by a brother, Marshall Edwin Cox and wife Marguerite of Goldsboro; nephews, Marshall Edwin Cox Jr. and wife Rita of Nashville, Tenn., Michael Glenn Cox and wife Kathy of Chapel Hill, and Edwin Lane Yelverton and wife Tricia of Durham; and great-nephews, Adam Michael and Jason Marshall Cox of Chapel Hill.
The caregivers at Kitty Askins Hospice Center were her extended family and she loved each of them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Sheldon Griffin; brother, Jesse Thompson Cox, and a sister Eliza Cox Yelverton Reeves.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church, 2803 E. Ash Street, Goldsboro, N. C. 27534 or to the church of your choice.
The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home and are invited to pay their respects at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Cox, 3109 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro.
