MAGNOLIA -- Gertha Lou Mathis, 91, of 516 W. Carroll St., died Tuesday at Duplin General Hospital.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Magnolia. The Rev. John Melvin will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Mrs. Mathis was the daughter of the late Edward and Estella Pugh Murphy. She was a homemaker.
Her survivors include four sons, Garfield Mathis Jr. of Temple Hill, Md., Pelenlenzo Carnell Mathis of Sea Pleasant, Md., Robert P. Mathis Sr. of Suitland, Md., and J.C. Mathis of Magnolia; three daughters, Estell Mathis-Lloyd of Washington, D.C., Jean M. Miller of Forrestville, Md., and Gertrude Jarman of Jacksonville; two sisters, Estelle Dafford of Rose Hill and Shirley Bright of Magnolia; and 16 sixteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The viewing hours will be from 3 until 6 today at Garris Funeral Home Chapel and at the church from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.
The family will greet friends at the church from 12 until 12:45, prior to the service on Saturday.
