FLOYD EVANS

Floyd Richard Evans, 77, of 523 Forest Hill Drive, died today at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Mr. Evans was born in Charlotte on Dec. 21, 1927, to the late Charnic Joshua Evans and Rena Faulkner Evans. He served in the United States Marine Corps, graduated from Louisburg College, and earned a master's degree in social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was the retired director of social services for Wayne County and had served as the interim clerk of court for Wayne County.
Mr. Evans was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church, where he taught the Bible Class for over 30 years, was the District Lay Leader for six years and had served on various committees. He had served as a Boy Scout leader and was a life-time member of the Goldsboro Host Lions Club. Mr. Evans was a member of the Wayne Masonic Lodge #112 A.F. & A.M. and a Shriner.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Jefferson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Johnson officiating. Burial, with Masonic rites, will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Betty Hudson Evans; two sons, Vann W. Evans, and his wife Laura, of Chapel Hill, and Gene Hayes and his wife, Betty, of Goldsboro; one sister, Gladys Grandy, and her husband, Homer, of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Heather Hayes of Asheville and Patrick Ellis of Goldsboro; and a nephew, Rick Odom, and wife, Judy, of Wilmington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bruce W. Evans and his wife, Nancy Weaver Evans.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 523 Forest Hill Drive, Goldsboro.
