MOUNT OLIVE -- Russell Kelly, 83, of 403 North Breazeale Ave. in Mount Olive, died early Thursday morning at Britthaven of Goldsboro.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Mount Olive. Dr. Dennis Atwood and the Rev. J. Paul Rose will officiate. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
Mr. Kelly was born Nov. 13, 1921, the son of the late John and Maude Goodson Kelly of the Scott's Store section of Duplin County. He was a World War II veteran, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Olive where he served numerous terms on the Board of Deacons.
He was a member of the church's Loyal Soldiers Bible Class, a past member of the Mount Olive Rotary Club and the Mount Olive Lion's Club. He was a retired Mount Olive volunteer fireman and had served two terms as a member of the Board of Commissioners in the town of Mount Olive. He was a past member of the board of directors of Wachovia Bank in Mount Olive and is remembered as being a well-known automobile salesman for over 40 years in the Mount Olive area.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Ruby Pearsall Kelly of the home; a devoted daughter and son, Nancy Kelly Medlin of Greenville, and Doug Kelly and his wife, Gail, of Elon; two grandsons, Clay Medlin of Greenville, and Josh Kelly of Elon; and two brothers, J. W. "Swinge" Kelly and George Kelly, both of Mount Olive.
Friends and family will be received tonight from 7 until 9 at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, and at other times at the family's residence.
The Kelly family gives special thanks to the entire staff of Britthaven of Goldsboro for six years of dedicated service to their loved one, and also heartfelt gratitude is given to Carolyn and Mike Withers, Margaret and Emil Cekada, Anise Kelly McKee, and Ralph Puckett for their faithful support during this time.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in Mr. Kelly's memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 239, Mount Olive, N.C.
