The funeral for Thurman Ward Sr., 67, of 719 Franklin St., will be held today at 2 p.m. at St. Luke Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, 636 Waller Road, Mount Olive. Elder L.D. Melvin will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Ward died last Sunday at Guardian Care of Kenansville.
The son of the late Cleveland and Lillie Wynn Ward, he graduated from Carver High School in 1956 and worked at Cherry Hospital for several years. After retiring as a custodian supervisor at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, he owned and operated Ward's Package Store.
His survivors include four sons, Thurman Ward II and Cleveland Devon Ward of Goldsboro, Darrin Dancy of Dudley and Michael Whitfield of Woodbridge, Va.; two daughters, Michelle Guidry of Montclair, N.J., and Erica Uzzell of Tallahassee, Fla.; one brother, John Ward of Goldsboro; seven sisters, Evelyn Lindsey of Baltimore, Md., Arnette Cogdell, Vickie Waters and Wanda Beamon of Dudley, Betty Joyce Peacock of Goldsboro, Brenda Waters of Jamestown, N.C., and Sandra Ward of Miami, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren.
The viewing was held on Saturday at Rhodes Funeral Home in Goldsboro, and the family was present to receive friends from 7 until 8. The family will receive friends at 638 Waller Road, Mount Olive, and the funeral procession will line up there this afternoon.
