John W. Moore, 71, stepbrother of Faye Talton of Goldsboro, died Tuesday.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Farmer Funeral Chapel in Ayden. The Rev. Van Mitchell will officiate.
Mr. Moore was a longtime resident of Grifton and was retired from DuPont. He was an avid fisherman, was a NASCAR fan, and enjoyed traveling and spending time at Emerald Isle Beach with his friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Moore, in 1982.
In addition to his stepsister, he is survived by his wife, Shirley W. Moore of the home; one daughter, Tammy Moore Garris of Ayden; another stepsister, Virginia Jones of Virginia; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Garris and Joshua Garris of Ayden; and his special dog, April "Stinky."
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday, and other times at 577 St. David Street, Grifton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grifton Free Will Baptist Church, 401 E. Charles St., Grifton; or to Grifton Rescue Squad, 210 W. Queen St., Grifton, N.C., 2830.
