Dessie Pate Creel, 82, died Tuesday at Big Elm Nursing Center, in Kanapolis after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kanapolis. The Rev. Coy Privette and the Rev. Stephen Burrow will officiate. Interment will on Friday at 3 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mrs. Creel was the daughter of the late William D. and Ophelia Myers Pate. She was a former resident of Goldsboro and had been an active member of the First Baptist Church, where she served as a deacon and was involved in various phases of church worship.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Phennie Everett Creel; one son, Ronnie Creel of Indian Trail; two daughters, Cindy Kornegay of Pawley's Island, S.C., and Donna Combs of Kanapolis; one sister, Beulah Pate of Kannapolis; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 6 until 7:30, prior to the service on Thursday evening, and also at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro from 1 until 3 p.m. on Friday.
