Leonard K. "Bill" Kornegay, 80, of 1600 Tampa St., Apt. 17, in Huntington Manor, died Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
He was born in Wayne County to the late Leonard and Lizzie Mae King Kornegay and was married to the late Ruby Rose Ellis Kornegay. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in the 79th Infantry Division and received the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the European Campaign Medal, the War World II Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal. He was a member of Goldsboro Masonic Lodge #112, the York Rite Temple and the Shrine Club.
He was also a member of Beston United Methodist Church and the funeral will be held there on Thursday at 2 p.m. The Rev. T.C. West will officiate. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
Mr. Kornegay is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Larry Morris of Goldsboro and Sara Ann and Larry Butler of Fayetteville; his grandchildren, Trey Ball of Goldsboro, Traci and Jason Baer of Greenville and Kyle Butler of Southbend, Ind.; his step-grandchildren, Beverly Austin of LaGrange and Don Morris of Snow Hill; and his step-great-grandson, Kyle Austin.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
