Sadie McCarter Southerland, 75, a resident of Kirkwood Retirement Community, died Monday at home.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Sasser officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
Mrs. Southerland was born in Wayne County to the late Roney and Mae White McCarter and was married to the late Vernon "Skinny" Southerland. A graduate of Goldsboro High School, she was a homemaker and a member of Emmaus Baptist Church, the E. L. Roberts Sunday School Class, and the Adult Choir.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul Vernon and Brenda Southerland of Goldsboro; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Terry Gabriel of Raleigh and Kathy and Joe Rector of San Antonio, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Arley and Pat McCarter of Dudley; one sister, Ruth Hoffman of Goldsboro; a special aunt, Virginia "Jink" McDonald of Goldsboro; and three grandchildren, Emily Paul Southerland, Warren Tyler and wife, Jamia, and Jaclyn Smith; and one great-grandson, Shane Smith. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby McCarter and Sam White; and her stepmother, Blonde McCarter.
Family members will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
