RUTH G. SMITH

Ruth Gray Smith, 84, of 1040 New Hope Road, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at her home following a lengthy illness.

Born in Wayne County on December 31, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Claudie and Hannah Walters Gray. She was the wife of the late Garland Rudolph Smith and was preceded in death by three brothers, Noah William Gray, Richard Gray and Raymond Gray.

Ruth was a member of Bethel United Methodist and was a active member for over fifty years. She was a homemaker, retired farmer, avid quilter and she had a special love for all children. Ruth loved her Lord, her church and her church family.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Williams and Rev. T.C. West officiating. A committal will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, LaGrange.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sisters, Nancy Cruse and husband, William, of LaGrange and Gertie Duncan and husband, Jack, of California; three brothers, Roland Gray, Roy Gray and wife, Willa Leen, Robert Gray and wife, Mildred, all of La Grange; foster son, Edward Gilbert Merritt of Charlotte; brothers and sisters-in-law, Maxine Gray, Gladys Gray, Lenard Smith, Preston Smith, Alphas Smith, Bennie Smith, Pete Smith, Frances Rouse, Evelyn McMillan and Beulah Roberts; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a special great-great-niece, Courtney Worth.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Ruth's caregivers, Benita Henderson, Cheryl Jones, Patsy Taylor, Dorothy Bridgers and Julia Tyndall.

The family will receive friends following the service Monday.

Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, LaGrange.
