Dorothy Ann "Dot" Shumate Valentino, 78, of 704 Forest Road, died Wednesday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Henry County, Va., to the late Harry Jones and Pattie Merriman Shumate. A graduate of Goldsboro High School, she was employed with Dr. "Rabbit" Smith prior to her marriage. More recently she was employed with Eastgate Cinema and Sam's Club. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Thomas P. Norris, OSFS will be presiding. Burial will follow at Willow Dale Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Joey and Lisa Valentino of Benson and Robert Valentino of Goldsboro; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lynn and Barry Hackett of Westboro, Mass.; two brothers, Ed Shumate and Charles Shumate, both of Goldsboro; one sister, Olivia S. Matthews of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, Joshua Rose, Robert Rose, Nicholas Rose, Shannon Hackett, Matthew Valentino and Logan Valentino; and numerous nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry J. Shumate Jr.

The family will be receiving friends Friday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the wake service beginning at 7 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the home.
