RALEIGH -- Donald James Grantham, 88, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 10, 2005, with his loving wife by his side.
After graduating with a BA in Chemistry from University of North Carolina, Mr. Grantham began his career as a radio announcer in 1940. Later he was an accomplished educator and author. He also was founder and President of Grantham College of Engineering from 1951 until retiring in 2002.
Mr. Grantham was predeceased by his parents, J. Clarence Grantham and Nannie Rose, one brother, Harold Grantham, and one sister, Sarah G. Johnson.
Surviving are his devoted wife, Lenore Grantham; sons, David S. Grantham and Philip L. Grantham; brother, Robert Grantham and his wife, Edna, of Grantham; sisters, Rose G. Rose of Goldsboro, Janet G. Pearson of Clinton and Joyce G. Lamb and her husband, Bobby, of Ingold; and one sister-in-law, Viola B. Grantham of Grantham.
The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 Millbrook Road, on Wednesday, July 13, from 6 until 8 p.m.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2005, at Brown-Wynne Chapel on Millbrook Road, with interment to follow.
