Roy Leonard Lane, 79, of Walnut Creek, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital, one day short of his 80th birthday.
He was a born July 5, 1925, in Charleston, W.Va. He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston and received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Cincinnati.
Mr. Lane was a veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and the United States Air Force in the Korean War. Following active military service, he worked for General Electric Corporation and Heavy Duty Transformers in Goldsboro, retiring from the latter in 1992. He was very active in the United States Air Force Reserve, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. Following retirement he became deeply involved in the United States Air Force Retiree volunteer programs at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, serving as director of that organization.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro and also attended the LaGrange Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen Dudley Lane; one brother, William H. Lane of Centerville, Ohio; and many close in-laws in West Virginia and Florida.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. The Reverend Ben Simms will officiate. Interment will be held in Parsons, West Virginia.
